Organic Recycling

EDCO’s Bundled Collection Service

Multi-family customers will subscribe to a bundled collection service, which will include trash, recycling, and organics collection, all under one collective rate.

EDCO will provide each multi-family unit with the equivalent volume of one 32-gallon organics cart for the weekly collection of organic waste. Additional multi-family organics collection services can be provided for an additional cost in variable-size organics carts and/or dumpsters, with the volume, collection frequency, and container type based on the individual needs of the complex.

Whatever level of organics service your multi-family complex requires, your Service Representatives will help implement the most cost-effective waste collection and recycling program to meet your specific needs. To ensure program success, your Service Representative can provide bilingual educational materials to support your program. Organic waste recycling is mandatory under California law (SB 1383). Multi-family properties are required to subscribe to organic waste collection service and properly separate organic waste from trash.

Please DO NOT use any plastic bags (including certified compostable or biodegradable bags) to collect your organic waste. Material must be placed loosely inside your green organics container. Organic waste may be placed in paper bags, which are recyclable.

Collecting Your Food Scraps

There are many different ways to neatly move food scraps from your kitchen to your organics container. Here are some of the most popular options:

Wrap Your Scraps! Many people find wrapping food waste in any type of non-wax paper, such as paper towels, packing paper, newspaper, or paper bags, is an easy way to move food waste from inside your kitchen to your organics container. This is especially true for large quantities of fruit, meat, etc., and you can even leave the scraps wrapped in the paper and then just drop it into the organics container.

Containerize It! Residents may also have their own containers, such as coffee cans and Tupperware products that they are comfortable using to hold food scraps. Once the caddie is full, it can be emptied into the organics cart.

Freeze It! Residents can freeze their food scraps in containers and paper bags and then empty as needed.

Helpful Tips

  • Avoid overfilling containers. Material must be loaded even with the top of the container so the lids close completely.
  • Please ensure that vehicles and equipment are not blocking access to your containers on your scheduled service day. Unobstructed access to containers is absolutely necessary.
  • Please DO NOT use any plastic bags (including certified compostable or biodegradable bags) to collect your organic waste, material must be placed loosely inside your blue recycling containers. Paper bags are acceptable.
